   3 This is some random ranting about the Mutopia project, aka "Music To
   4 the People," the ultimate goal which I want to accomplish using
   5 LilyPond and mudela.

   9 Music publishers make lots of money out of selling sheet music which
  10 is in the public domain (the composers died a long time ago). It is
  11 usually prohibited to xerox the sheet music.  Publishers have two
  12 arguments to justify this policy: the high prices are there to
  13 guarantee diversity (keeping lots of it in stock is expensive), and to
  14 encourage new work being composed.

  16 This is bad. Storing a Mudela file takes almost no space at all, and
  17 if sheet music could be had for free, then it would be much easier
  18 obtain less famous music.  These composers have died long ago, and not
  19 having their music available only discourages people from
  20 experimenting with it.  You deserve to get public domain music for
  21 free (zero cents)

  25 For literature, the project Gutenberg has an archive of public domain
  26 literary works. For music, this does not exist yet.

  29 call The Mutopia Project.

  35 music available.  The music is partly downloadable from the website.
