 I spent a good part of the past few weeks traveling around NY once again. [http://www.paulzugnoni.com|Paul Zugnoni] visited me in NY for a bit, so we went to see Niagra Falls, and then later took in NYC. On the way to visiting Niagra Falls, we checked out a rather neat [http://gallery.donarmstrong.com/2003/05_may/niagra_falls_05152003/collapsed_building|dilapidated building] that had totally collapsed some time in the past. It's construction is rather odd, built totally out of [http://gallery.donarmstrong.com/2003/05_may/niagra_falls_05152003/collapsed_building/collapsed_building_wall.jpg|orientated stones]. Unfortunatly, it seems that rebar was at a premium when it was built, or the pitch of the roof wasn't steep enough to support the snow one year. While we were there, I shot the dandelions to the left.
 
 That weekend, we flew to NYC on [http://www.jetblue.com|Jet Blue], landing in JFK. Nicely, the NYC subway has a free shuttle from the terminals to the nearest subway, and it's a straight shot from the A line into downtown NYC. We ended up staying at [http://www.hotel31.com|Hotel 31], which is a really inexpensive european style hotel, that was once a SRO, aka wellfare hotel. [For the uninitiated, that means really small rooms with a bath down the hall. But since we weren't there to spend time in a room, who cares?]

Life on board the ship was pretty nice, and the food was excelent. However, I'm not quite sure if I fit in all to well with the average occupant of a cruise ship. I travel to experience, not to see things. Of course, like any other traveller, there are certain things that I would really like to see along my way. Yet, to live and travel in a glass enclosed box looking down on residents living their lives is not for me. I want to be with the people, walk amoungst them, eat what they eat, see what they see. All around the waterfall were little individually iced blades of grass and tree bits which had slowly build up a countoured layer of ice from the mist of the falls.  It also looks like the squirrels that were living in the attic here have finally made their way out, and hopefully I won't be hearing from them again. It also managed to snow pretty heavily today, which was subsequently followed by high winds. Seeing the snow being blowed around reminded me of the dunes that fine sand forms in the desert.

The right to air one's grievances in a public maner is one of the liberties which all Americans hold dear, and must not be taken away by force or threat of force in all but the most dire circumstances. Frankly, I'm not quite sure how 1000 protesters who may or may not have been keeping longshoremen from work is a "dire circumstance" requiring much more than a police presence to make sure that the protesters refain from vandalizing property and avoid liability from not responding.
