   3 This weekend, I finally got around to dealing with the
   4 [Greenhouse whitefly](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greenhouse_whitefly)
   5 infestation we've had on the basil and mint in the kitchen window.
   6 We've previously tried
   7 [Pyrethrin](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pyrethrin)-based
   8 insecticides, but eventually the whiteflies came back.

  10 After a bit of research, it appears that insecticide resistance is a
  11 fairly common occurrence with whiteflies, and other alternative
  12 approaches are needed to manage the infestation. In our case, since
  13 the plants are relatively small, I opted for drowning the plants for a
  14 few moments, and then putting yellow sticky traps out. Hopefully this
  15 will at least let the basil come back and keep the whiteflies under
  16 wraps.
