[[!meta title="Hoppin John"]] 1600 cal/recipe ## Ingredients + 3 oz uncooked wild rice + 3 oz uncooked brown rice + 30-oz can black-eyed peas, drained + 29-oz can diced tomatoes + 44 oz vegetable broth + 1/2 round tsp dry onion flakes + 1/4 round tsp dry parsley + 1/8 round tsp garlic powder + 1/8 round tsp onion powder + 1/2 round tsp dry ground turmeric + 1/4 round tsp dry ground cumin + 1/8 round tsp dry ground ginger + 1/4 round tsp ground black pepper + 1 tsp salt ## Directions + In a large pot, mix all ingredients. + Bring to a boil. + Reduce heat and simmer for 20 minutes, or until rice is tender. ## Note Traditionally eaten New Year's Day to bring good luck for the coming year.
