11 + 1 1/2 c all-purpose flour
12 + 5 tsp Earl Grey tea leaves
13 + 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
15 + 1/2 c unsalted butter, at room temperature
16 + 1 c granulated sugar
18 + 1 tsp vanilla extract
23 + 1/2 c unsalted butter, at room temperature
26 + 1 large lemon, zested and juiced
31 + Line cupcake pans with about 14 cupcake liners.
32 + Make cupcakes by stirring together flour, tea leaves, baking powder, and salt in a small bowl.
33 + Cream 1/2 c butter and granulated sugar in a large bowl until light and fluffy.
34 + Beat egg and vanilla into butter mixture.
35 + Slowly mix flour mixture into butter mixture.
36 + Mix milk into batter.
37 + Pour batter into cupcake liners, filling each about 2/3 full.
38 + Bake cupcakes for 15-20 min until lightly golden.
39 + Make frosting by beating 1/2 c butter and powdered sugar until smooth.
40 + Mix in heavy cream, lemon zest, and lemon juice.
41 + Spread frosting on cooled cupcakes.
44 It's best to cut open tea bags for the tea leaves since bagged tea is basically ground and mixes into the batter well.
45 Nice tea leaves will remain as little pieces in the batter that will turn into hard bits after baking.
