   5 This is some random ranting about the Mutopia project, aka "Music To
   6 the People," the ultimate goal which I want to accomplish using
   7 LilyPond and mudela.

  11 Music publishers make lots of money out of selling sheet music which
  12 is in the public domain (the composers died a long time ago). It is
  13 usually prohibited to xerox the sheet music.  Publishers have two
  14 arguments to justify this policy: the high prices are there to
  15 guarantee diversity (keeping lots of it in stock is expensive), and to
  16 encourage new work being composed.

  18 This is bad. Storing a Mudela file takes almost no space at all, and
  19 if sheet music could be had for free, then it would be much easier
  20 obtain less famous music.  These composers have died long ago, and not
  21 having their music available only discourages people from
  22 experimenting with it.  You deserve to get public domain music for
  23 free (zero cents)

  27 For literature, the project Gutenberg has an archive of public domain
  28 literary works. For music, this does not exist yet.

  31 call The Mutopia Project.

  36 This project is still in its infancy:  we have very little amount of
  37 music available.  The music is partly downloadable from the website.
